1953 LAGONDA 3 litre Tickford drophead coupeRegistration number NYC 820: Chassis number LAG/50/503WO BENTLEY Engine number: VB6J/71 Finished in Lagonda dark blue (LAG/50/503) is presented in great condition with a beautiful grey leather interior piped in blue with matching soft top and hood cover. It is a sumptuous motor car and little wonder that the beautiful Lagonda Drophead was favoured by some illustrious characters including the late Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh and the late actor Peter Ustinov. The Lagonda sales brochure stated the car had beauty of line, power and grace - and what superlative comfort and proud dignity were embodied in the 3 litre Lagonda Tickford saloon and drophead coupe. This example has had only four owners (two of which are famous) and has covered 38000 miles which according to previous mot certificates and warranted by the previous owners, appears to be correct. The valuable number plate is included and is transferable. Coachbuilders Tickford of Newport Pagnell were the body suppliers to Aston Martin Lagonda during manufacture of the 2.6 litre and also the new 3 litre announced in 1953 and assumed sole responsibility of body production for both the two-door saloon and the drophead coupe (the four-door saloon following later). The engine produces 140 bhp, offering a top speed in excess of 100 mph. The car is both MOT and tax exempt and we are told that about only 8 of these cars are in existence today. The vehicle has recently had circa £20,000 spent on the restoration and in addition, a new soft top has just been added and fitted.Originally supplied and registered by Brooklands of Bond Street Ltd London, to its first owner Mr C Volz of Putney, it was then sold back to Brooklands of Bond Street and subsequently sold it to Mr P Brunner of London. Mr Brunner's original bill of sale is in the history folder showing the full cost of £705. Mr Brunner passed away in 1966 and the ownership passed into Mrs Brunner's hands who retained the car until the 1990s. One further owner was recorded before the vendor purchased the Lagonda. In his ownership the car has been used for touring and to attend classic car events with the Lagonda Owner's Club and others. The features include: An advanced design employing a cruciform-braced chassis with independent suspension all round, coach built, leather upholstery, plentiful walnut, quality fittings. The history folder includes: numerous receipts, fascinating hand written letters from Mrs Brunner detailing the history of the car during her and her husband's ownership, letters from DVLA to retain the original registration number. This beautiful motorcar offers a scarce opportunity to purchase one of the rarest of Lagonda models. It is indeed a refined example of luxurious motoring from a bygone age and a thing of beauty and grace. £64995Just in - more photos to follow........
